You know your IT is maturing when…

  1. There is a constant stream of new IT professionals joining your organization from different industries to your own, and from e-innovators.
  2. Business partners give you easy access – are always happy to talk to you about new ideas.
  3. Projects, even large ones, are stopped because it was recognized that the necessary conditions for success were not (or no longer) being met.
  4. All projects have to have a business case, and the case is taken seriously – even long after the project has been implemented.
  5. Major projects have as much business participation as they do by IT professionals.
  6. Valued IT professionals are leaving IT to work in business units.
  7. Valued business professionals are leaving their business units to join the IT organization.
  8. There has been a realignment of the IT leadership team in the last 12 months.
  9. Stopping stuff (projects, activities, retiring systems) is valued as positive behavior, rather than being frowned upon as “failure.”
  10. More projects are being kicked off without clear and concise “requirements specifications” – experiments are considered ok.
