This is both a sad indictment of the state of leadership, but also a wonderful opportunity for innovative, curious IT leaders who are trying to make an impact, as you did on that particular engagement some years ago!]]></description>

Reading your post brings many flashbacks for me.  

Your recollection of Professor McFarlan&#039;s comment causes me to recall a time many years ago when you and I were working together on a project and you said that IT most often has to create the Business Strategy.  At the time this seemed so inverted to me, but that engagement and subsequent engagements over the years underscores your advice from that time.

So often in &quot;Strategy&quot; engagements, there&#039;s such a challenge in mining the strategic intent of the Business.  Business Units are good at articulating what they&#039;re doing today, but not many are good at articulating why.
