i could not agree more to what you said on this topic. i have come across many it organizations and service providers who are using the term “transformation” to serve their interest without actually being able to deliver a true “transformation”.

in my opinion, there is also need to differentiate between innovation and transformation with respect to IT. many a times, these two words are misused – http://cio.tekrati.com/research/10229/.

i also believe that IT transformation initiatives should be aligned to the enterprise end customers. also from accounting point of view, the transformation initiatives should be treated as innovation centers rather than cost centers since not all transformational initiatives will be quantified in cash flow analysis etc.
