Steve, thanks for the great feedback and ideas! The blog itself has been (and continues to be) and interesting journey. Video posting is like learning a foreign language! I thought the mechanics would be easy - sit in front of the PC and talk. Wrong (of course). The camera position and lighting were all wrong. Editing on Windows Movie Maker was very limited and frustrating, and, as another reader (viewer?) pointed out, the built-in mic did not help. So, for part 2, I used my camcorder. That took me into lighting hell! (Every few minutes, my smoke alarm would go off!) I discovered my camcorder would not accept an external mike, and that iMovie had its own limitations (or limitations of my knowledge and experience with it!) in terms of making this kind of film.

I can see a new home studio set up in my future - lights, green screen, new camera, microphone, and video editing suite! I think a cool $6k should do it!

As for content, you are, of course, absolutely right! I hope to get into some more advanced aspects of marketing in later posts. Perhaps a joint post is in our future???

Vaughan - you are doing a great job with yoru blog - I'm sure Susan S is quite prooud (as are we all!).

Some feedback about your marketing series - both medium and message.

Medium: I personally liked the bookcase backdrop in Part 2 better than the sitting in front of the laptop webcam in Part 1. I also liked the way you floated the words over the video. However, try to keep with a consistent look and feel to the Vaughan Merlyn "brand" of IT Org 2017 and the typeface, etc. you use, from segment to segment. I know you are experimenting, but just a thought.

Message: It's always nice to start with the basics, especially when you are speaking about applying the knowledge of one discipline (marketing) to professionals in another discipline (IT). So, the 4 Ps and their elements was a resonable starting point.

Nonetheless, as an IT professional myself who has waywardly wandered into the field of marketing for a fair bit of my career, I have already begun to quickly segue to a newer more appropriate notion of marketing, which is the ABCDEs.

It breaks down like this:

OLD >>> NEW
Place >>> Anyplace (marketspace, marketface)
Promotion >>> Brand & Engagement
Product >>> Consumer-like experiences
Price >>> Discovery (mechanisms for pricing)

Of course, you alreayd know this well, as you spoke eloquently about in Part 2, wrt brand. So, good job! And I look forward to Part 3.

Cheers
